New filmmakers like Sydney, Australia native James Cooper, are diversifying and shaping the way modern video looks and feels. They’re taking risks and trying things that push the limits of creativity and innovation.
Just over a year into his directing career, Cooper’s film Amongst Inspiration has been snagged as an official selection at the 2013 Chicago Irish Film Festival. Meanwhile, he’s broadening his scope to include everything from comedy sketches to short films and working in London, Dublin, Sydney, and New York.
Cooper has developed and evolved a style that often showcases fragmented moments of life. Watching his work, you might feel like you’re reminiscing on your own experiences. “My style changes for most projects, but usually I’m trying to create a visual world. So that when viewers hit play, and see the video, they feel like they’re occupying a space; seeing something familiar to them. And whenever I’m working with an artist or a brand, I always try to create a unique visual world for that particular project.”
